Expert-Led Continuing Education for Community Providers

Expanding the Network of Support for Mothers

Across Ohio, mothers are seeking care for perinatal mental health concerns—from infertility and pregnancy loss to postpartum depression, anxiety, and the complex emotional transitions of parenthood. Yet the number of clinicians with specialized training in perinatal mental health remains far too small to meet the need.

At Living Beyond Motherhood, we believe that access to care improves when the entire community of providers is better equipped to support mothers and families.

That’s why one of our core initiatives is offering free, expert-led continuing education opportunities for professionals who work with women and mothers.

Why This Matters

Perinatal mental health conditions are among the most common complications of pregnancy and postpartum. Yet many providers who interact with mothers—therapists, physicians, nurses, social workers, educators, doulas, and community advocates—receive little formal training in identifying or responding to these challenges.

Specialized certification programs, such as the Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C), provide valuable expertise. However, the time and financial investment required can make these programs inaccessible for many professionals.

The result?
Too many families struggle to find providers who feel confident addressing the emotional realities of fertility challenges, pregnancy, postpartum adjustment, and modern motherhood.

Our Approach

Living Beyond Motherhood is committed to reducing barriers to high-quality professional education.

Through partnerships with experienced clinicians, researchers, and educators, we offer free and low cost continuing education courses designed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of professionals who support women and families.

Our programming focuses on:

  • Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders

  • Infertility and assisted reproduction

  • Identity shifts in motherhood

  • Relationship and family system dynamics

  • Trauma-informed approaches to maternal mental health

  • Supporting diverse family-building paths

  • Perimenopause and menopause

  • Pharmacology for non-prescribers

Courses are designed to be accessible, practical, and grounded in real-world clinical experience, equipping providers with tools they can immediately bring into their work.

Who These Trainings Are For

Our continuing education programs are designed for professionals who support women and mothers in a variety of roles, including:

  • Mental health clinicians

  • Physicians, nurses, and healthcare providers

  • Social workers and case managers

  • Doulas and birth workers

  • Educators and community advocates

  • Nonprofit and social service professionals

If your work intersects with the lives of mothers and families, these trainings are for you. Thanks to our community partnerships, we will be able to provide continuing education credits to those licensed by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapy Board and credits towards PMH-C certification renewal. Other professionals will need to consult with their boards regarding approval.

Building a Stronger Support Network for Mothers

When providers have access to high-quality training, entire communities benefit.

By expanding access to maternal mental health education, Living Beyond Motherhood is helping build a stronger, more informed network of professionals who can recognize, respond to, and support the complex realities of modern motherhood.

Because when the people supporting mothers are supported too, everyone thrives.
